Our Story

Our founder, Therman Russell is an American musician, singer/songwriter, producer, recording artist and author with over 40 years experience in the recording industry. 

 

Based in his home, Studio Star is our founder's gift to anyone who enjoys chirping a little tune (singers and non-singers, young and old alike), but would otherwise never have the opportunity to have a professional recording with their voice on it, singing their favourite songs.  Now, ANYONE can enjoy that experience! 

 

Working with singers and musicians has been a part of Therman's life since 1965, when at the age of 9, he sang in a group/band with his siblings.  At the age of eleven, he picked up the guitar, and taught himself to play.  It wasn't long before he formed a separate large soul/funk band where he played lead guitar, and was the lead singer.

 

Moving to the UK in 1979, and after countless live gigs and recording sessions, in 1982, Therman established his own recording studio.  Working from his home in Banbury, Oxfordshire, Therman honed his recording, mixing, engineering and producing skills over the years by recording everyone from solo artists (including himself) to large bands and choirs. 

 

Vocal coaching became a significant addition to Therman's talents due to his experience as Music Director in churches in the United States and in the United Kingdom, where he directed and coached large teams of musicians and singers.

An accumulation of experiences working with, and recording singers and musicians over many years have contributed significantly to Therman's ability to effectively communicate with, coach, teach, mentor and encourage singers and musicians to help them realise their full potential.  Now, his experience is used to help you, our Studio Star client, to perform at your best, even if you're not a singer!  

 

So, the good news is, you don't have to be someone who considers themselves a singer; Therman will get the best possible performance from you; then (if necessary) use his recording, engineering and producing skills to make you sound like you CAN sing!  A bit of "Smoke and Mirrors" if you like! :-)

 

Finally, and most importantly, our founder is a professional and a perfectionist, so your recording session will be great!  Also, his caring and supportive nature, and his laidback attitude will keep you relaxed, while his sense of humour will keep you laughing!  So, give Studio Star a go; you'll be glad you did!
